We want to wish all our members and their families a safe & relaxing holiday season filled with cheer!
As we get closer to the final school day of 2023, here are a few reminders:
– The final day of work before Christmas break for the 10-month employees is Friday December 22, 2023.
– The first day back to work after the Christmas break for the 10-month employees is Thursday January 4, 2023.
– As per our collective agreement the following days are observed as holidays off without loss of pay; Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day. More information on holidays can be found in Article 27 in the collective agreement.
– Keep an eye to your personal email accounts to see if you’re one of the funky frog winners!
Reminder to all Local 1770 members that our AGM will take place on November 16th 2023 in a virtual format.
Please keep an eye out for your email invitation being sent to your personal email address that you have provided to the local’s executive. If you have a new email address, please let your Area VP know as soon as possible.
As the dog days of summer wind down we are excited to start hearing about your summer, hear from familiar voices, and see our coworkers again! Your local 1770 executive team we would like to welcome you all back to work as we finish up our prep for the 2023/2024 school year.
We know these first few weeks can be overwhelming but we also know our members are hard working, focused, and committed to ensuring our Island schools are running smoothly for all staff and students.
Let’s make 2023/2024 a great year!
CUPE 1770 had many members who have retired over the past year or as the Island schools close for the summer are leaving their offices for last time. We want to recognize these special people, CUPE Local 1770 thanks you for your many years of service in the PEI school system and as wonderful members of CUPE Local 1770. Happy Summer 1770 Members! June 30th marks the last day before Summer break for a number of our members. We would like to wish our school administrative assistants a well deserved summer break and will be ready to welcome them all back on Friday August 25th, 2023.
For our branch based members, we hope you all get the chance to take some vacation and enjoy some sunshine over the next 2 months.

There has been a lot of buzz around who the Lucky Ducks are each week! Thanks to Lynda MacLean for spearheading this fun way to give back to the local and give us each something to look forward to each week as we work towards the end of the 2022-2023 school year!
Each member received a numbered ducky to keep at their desk and each week a number is drawn from each of the two zones for a $50 Canada’s Food Island Gift Card!

CUPE Local 1770 was able to send 5 delegates to the CUPE PEI 43rd Annual held at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort from May 24-26.
Hats off the to all involved in organizing the event, as well as the staff at the resort for hosting the over 100 guests & delegates.
There were several items on the agenda, anti-racism training, resolutions, and elections.
CUPE PEI has sworn in Ashley Clark as their newly elected president and welcomed many others to their board. Thanks to Leonard Gallant for his many years of service with CUPE PEI, Leonard was a great activist and represented CUPE PEI always with a smile and an unwavering commitment. All the best in your next chapter Leonard!
Katelyn Rogers and Meghan Rogers The Easter Seals ambassadors were welcomed to the convention. Their impactful presentation highlighted the vital role our members play in supporting individuals with disabilities and showcased the profound difference our work makes in their lives. Locals Representatives, CUPE National, SCFP Quebec and many more pooled their funds to donate over $15,200 to the PEI Easter Seals.
CUPE Local 1770 was able to donate $250 to Easter Seals in accordance to our By-Laws.

CUPE Local 1770 was able to sponsor another book that has been sent out to PEI schools.
Literacy is an important educational pilar and we are happy that we have been able to support Marlene Bryenton share this story with Island youth.
